I am leaning toward a pillow-type finish because I am nervous to use glue in the recommended finishing. Would love to hear opinions on using glue in finishing.
I like the design without the beads and I am practicing my French knots before trying them on my final piece, I will leave them blank-faced if I cannot "perfect" my knots (besides, if I do hang it on the tree I would not want the knots to be pulled out).

I cannot wait to start on Pear Tree. It is my favorite of the first three designs and I have been (enviously) watching other stitcher's finishes for weeks. Thanks for sharing all your inspiring "adaptations".
Feeling a little better today so I will be doing the "Flight of the Bumblebee" throughout the house with my trusty Clorox wipes and Lysol and catching up on the dishes and laundry and other neglected household chores. Unfortunately, this will probably not leave much time stitching today (although I would be happy to be proved wrong).
Your Fa-La-La is beautiful! I recently stitched mine too, and now I'm about half way through with Pear Tree. I'm going to finish most of mine as pinkeeps. Glue? I never use it unless there is just no other way.

ReplyDeleteI finished off a pillow this week using glue and I was surprised at how well it turned out.
I think the success is also down to the type of fabric glue that you use, hopefully someone can recommend one. The one I use is made in the uk.
The fabric glue that I use for my finishing is Alene's Tacky glue.There are many versions of Alene's and I use the one in the silver bottle. Occasionally I use those glue dots for some things. Have you seen those? They are in the scrapbooking department at Michael's and Hobby Lobby. I imagine you could find them in the scrapbooking stores if those other stores aren't available in your area. As far as the french knots.... I know what you mean about feeling leary of them pulling out. Have you ever used colonial knots? If you've not used them and don't know what they are, you can Google a tutorial on how they are done. I find that they don't have near the tendancy to pull through to the backside of the fabric like french knots sometimes do when you are making them. Also I think sometimes they set in the fabric better. Just a couple of thoughts.

ReplyDeleteSharlotte - I have 4 different types of Alene glue (perils of a grade school room mom & compulsive crafter ;) I also have glue dots (did I mention the compulsive crafting?) I will definitely look up the Colonial knots -- thanks for the tip.
