Porch Bird (UPDATED)

Another sign of spring . . .

I hung some ORTs from last year in a nearby tree for additional nesting material. Will keep you updated if we get eggs.

Curious to know what type of bird this is if anyone knows.

  1. I love it! Birds, eggs, and baby birds are one of my favorite things about Spring and Summer. Can't wait to hear about those eggs. :0)

  2. We had birdies that nested in our light fixture on our front porch about 3 years and then none came last year. I hope some come back this year. I miss seeing them.

  3. I put ORTs out too this year. I keep hoping I'll see some of it a nest sometime. A few years ago I had a grapevine wreath hanging near the front door and a bird built a nest on top of it. I loved going out and watching the progress. Only problem was we really couldn't use the front door during that time.

  4. I was hoping to pressure wash the porch soon (it really needs it), but we will have to give this corner a wide berth until nesting is over.

Some friends had a bluebird house in their yard and hooked up a camera & mic to capture all the goings on. It was amazing, especially to DS who loved checking daily waiting for the eggs to hatch. I may just use a step stool to take an occasional pic.

  5. It looks like a tit or finch of some sort. Looks like the female as they are brown/plain as opposed to the more colourful males. I'm no bird expert though so feel free to correct me anyone. x

  7. Awesome photo. Though it is hard to tell what kind of bird. My guess is a sparrow.

  8. Michelle,

I had a tree with some low branches nearby so I lodged small "tufts" of ORTs in the branches. But, I saw someone else online that used as suet feeder to put out their ORTs for the birds. I plan to buy one on my next trip to the StuffMart.

  9. Kathy & Hazel,

Thanks for the tips on the bird type. I want to put out some feed for it. Have got to keep the little mother happy.

  10. How sweet! That is a house finch you have there. They like to nest in door wreaths or door frames. we have a lot of them here in Texas.
